How do you determine the costs of your services?

Since each writing project is unique, we will first need to see your work before determining a fee. Please send us a sample of your work by fax or e-mail so we can determine a time frame.

Can you polish something already written?

Yes, we’ll be glad to work with you on text you’ve already written. Sometimes minor revisions are needed, while other times more extensive editing or rewriting may be needed.

What if Cogent Text does not appear to have experience in a certain industry? How can you write or edit material for us?

Well-written material is a result of well-researched subject matter, and good writers and editors enjoy the writing process, which goes hand in hand with good research. We'll write or edit your material only after learning as much as necessary about your business and your needs.

What if I don't like your work?

If the first draft does not meet your expectations, please let us know. We intend to do it right the first time; if we don’t, we will work with you to revise your work. Usually this is completed in no more than 3 rounds of revisions.

Do you accept rush jobs?

While we’ll be glad to discuss rush jobs with you, we wouldn’t want to jeopardize the quality of your work because of an inadequate time frame. Normally, though, completion of a project takes anywhere from one to three weeks depending on the scope of the project and number of rounds of writing or editing. We do complete writing and editing projects on short notice, but this ordinarily requires a higher rate.

How do I pay for services?

We request 50% of the estimated total as a deposit for each project. You will be invoiced at completion of the project and payment can be made via PayPal or check.

Who has ownership of the completed writing?

You have full ownership of the work. We may, however, ask permission to use the writing as an example.

How do I get my work to you?

You can submit work by fax or e-mail. Documents should be done using Microsoft Word.

What types of projects don’t you accept?

We ordinarily do not do formal business plans or government grant writing.

What are your business hours?

Monday through Friday during normal business hours (Central Standard Time).

How do we begin?

Please send us relevant details of your project through the form on our Contact Us page. Describe what you’d like to accomplish and the audience you intend to reach. Then e-mail us backup documentation such as catalogs, brochures, or other literature you might have. We can then discuss your project, see what you’d like to achieve, and give you a quote.
